Age of Coan Basics and SecretsJust thought I’d throw this out there, since I hadn’t seen anything letting the incoming new folks in on what there is. Nothing spectacular, but deserves to be put out there. If I miss something, Post it, and I’ll add to this OP.

1.) When you first gain control over your new character, turn around 180 degrees, and swim out and down towards the reef you see. There’s a chest just in front of it, that sometimes contains a magic ring that adds 0.5% fire resistance.

2.) Instead of going straight to the girl in front of you, turn left along the beach. Some alligators to kill, but no treasure, other than the teeth occasionally dropped.

3.) Loop back around and follow the beach to the right. It goes on a for a bit, but eventually you hit some rogues, then gators. There’s a gator boss that drops a random body part, use not yet known. I got a severed foot. The gator boss guards a treasure chest, that may also contain a magic ring with the same fire buff.

4.) After freeing the girl, bear left for a mini-boss that drops a two-handed blunt weapon and guards another chest that may have another magic ring.

5.) Bear right after the girl but sharply so: The path to the right splits. The righmost path ends in a little camp with another miniboss. No treasure chest, but he does drop a new dagger.

6.) After killing the slaver, in the tents section, the tent behind the boss who drops the bow and arrows also contains another chest, which also may have another magic ring.

7.) Inside the temple, to the right of the boss, is another 2 minions. Behind them is another chest, with maybe another ring.

8.) After getting through the locked gate, and through the gorilla gauntlet, you’ll eventually find and kill a gorilla boss. Take his treasure, which serves no purpose yet other than giving you starting money. To the right of the boss is another two gorillas. Kill them; they guard the final chest before you get to town.

That’s about it for now. Odds are I’ve missed one more more items, feel free to criticize my lack of omnipotence and inform me. I’ll update this mini-guide.

The White Sands Mausoleum key!

You get this key along with a weapon from the blacksmith outside who broke your chains. Bring him metal from the docks to get this key. But where is it used? Took me a while to figure that one out!

First, you CANNOT find this chest at night! No way, no how, it isn’t there! You gotta brave the gankers to get your treasure. Go to white sands. Follow the beachline to the right a looong way. Walk across the shallow channel, and go along the beach. You pass the stone dock to your right, pass the first big bandit camp on your left, then eventually on your left you’ll see giant stone stairs. Go up the hill _to the right of these_. It’s a little path, flanked with torches. You’ll see the mausoleum in front of you, but the chest isn’t there! It’s directly to the left on the path, right in front of the single tent. Loot be yours now.

#Rocker7’s tips:

Tip 1: On White Sands, when you first spawn by the rowboat walk straight ahead and to the right about 50 feet and there is a bottle in the sand by the shoreline that will send you on a quest to a nearby Island to kill the Ape Queen (not the Ape Behemoth Boss). Found a chest on the island that contained a non-magical necklace worth around 45 tin plus experience for killing the ape queen and its minions. Don’t remember what level they were.

Tip 2: When you arrive in Old Tarantia. Dive underneath the docked boat and you will find an underwater chest (chest will be glowing) near one end of the boat. It contained level 20 health and stamina potions when I opened it.

Q&A: Do Heals Stack in AOC?

OK, so you’ve played WoW or LotRO or DaoC or EQ. This game works a little different. Let’s clear a few thingsAge of Conan Healing up so people better understand the role of healers in AoC.
Note: ToS point of view but others have similar spells

1. There are no (at least that I have seen) targeted heals. Heals are either directional (cone) or group.

2. Cone spells do an initial bump in health then tick HOT. Subsequent casts do not grant the ‘bump’, but simply refresh the timer. In other words, they do no addition ‘healing’, they simply increase the HOT duration.

3. Group Heals simply apply a HOT. There is a medium cooldown on them and recasting before HOT expiration has no additional effect beyond refreshing the timer.

4. Emergency heals are just that. They have a medium cooldown and grant a one time boost in health, but they place a debuff on characters that lasts 1 minute. If the Emergency heal is cast again before the debuff expires it has no effect.

5. Hots last 15-20 seconds (I think - need to confirm the range for the various spells)

6. Cone spells do not stack (from any class). If a ToS puts a cone HOT on you, the PoM HOT will have no effect.

7. Group heals will stack, but only from two different healers. Two is the maximum group HOTs that can be active at any given time.

What does all this mean:
In short, it means if your healer is spamming heals then he/she is wasting mana. It means that if you have two healers in your group and you have three HOTs running on you (and an emergency heal debuff) then that’s all the heals you’re going to get short of a potion - no matter how much you yell at the healer.

If you have 3 HOTs, a potion, and an emergency heal debuff on you and you’re still dying, then you should look at the level of the mobs you’re pulling, how you are pulling them, or your group composition.

If your healer is AOEing between casting HOTs (and your HOTs are staying active) then your healer is doing his job. Healers may want to consider finding another group if players start yelling at you about casting offensive spells. If they are doing that, it’s possible that their inexperience is what’s creating the ‘emergency situations’.

Poor healers:
Poor healers cast offensive spells so much that they neglect HOTs (it’s likely they are used to solo grinding). Poor healers don’t watch health bars and ‘miss’ the emergency heals. Poor healers forget party buffs. Poor healers stand around and spam heals and fail to add their DPS to the group.

Summary:
There is a finite amount of healing power over a given time and you have to make the best of it. The offensive capability of your healers is very important to the group. Watch for signs of a ‘poor healer’ and if they are not there consider changing strategies instead of taking it out on your healer.

Disclaimer: There may be some inaccuracies above, but I think it’s pretty close.

Age of Conan Dark Templar ClassI think part of the problem with grouping at the moment is people are still getting to know what their class is capable of, and not many people have an understanding of what other classes are capable of. So let’s use this category to share our knowledge of our own class, so everyone has a better idea of what everyone else is doing when we’re zerging a boss. (Wall of Text Warning - The descriptions in this article are likely to be long, but I think this knowledge would be invaluable to anyone focusing on group PVE).

I’ll start with the Dark Templar.

The DT is primarily a hybrid class, capable of dishing out a decent amount of DPS while keeping their group’s health topped off, or (not “and”) taking some punishment as a tank.

When the Dark Templar is acting as a tank, he has a multitude of Threat building combos used to gain and secure aggro. In order to be more proficient at this, he must boost up his Taunt skill. A DT with a low Taunt skill will have a difficult time dishing out enough damage and threat to function as a tank. In order to mitigate the most amount of damage, the DT can go into Defensive Stance, increasing his defenses while decreasing his damage output. A DT who is trying to secure aggro will often use the Neutral Stance (ie, no stance at all) to dish out damage while keeping his defenses relatively high - then once aggro is established, he’ll switch to Defensive Stance to reduce the amount of damage he’s taking. A DT can also use “Active Blocking” (I think it’s called) to significantly improve his chances of blocking or parrying an attack - though it quickly consumes stamina. We’re also very capable AoE tanks, as our life stealing abilities greatly increase when we have lots of mobs attacking us.

Classes with high DPS must also exhibit some restraint, as it is not just the tank’s responsibility to ensure that he keeps aggro. By giving the tank a decent headstart, and/or by simply pacing your DPS, you can make his life easier while keeping yours intact.

When not acting as a tank, a DT makes a great support class. We’re equipped with a handful of support and damage abilities. We have debuffs that reduce a mob’s defensive resistances, we have Damage Over Time combos and curses, and we have group life-drain abilities that restore health and stamina to the whole group. In addition to Defensive Stance, we have Frenzy stance which significantly increases our DPS (and threat), but reduces our defensive capabilities. This can be useful in situations we’re another player is acting as the tank, as we can dish out some pretty significant damage.

We also have an ability called Martyrdom, which let’s us sacrifice some of our own life to restore life in the rest of group. I’ve kept many group members alive by stepping back from the action, making sure my health was high enough, and then spamming Martyrdom to assist the healers. Just keep in mind that DT’s can literally kill themselves by using this ability.

Finally, we have Sadism. When another member of the party is attacked and takes damage, we begin stacking a buff called Sadism that significantly improves a DT’s capabilities. This can stack up to 10x, each time increasing his damage output and ability to leech life. At 10x, Sadism increases a DT’s life-stealing abilities by 1000%!

So, there’s a pretty basic introduction to what a DT can be used for. Please, I hope other DT’s will chime in and offer their views of the class, and criticisms of what I’ve said.

Now, someone else from a different class please offer a similar introduction to your class so we can all get to know each other’s capabilities.
